TIGERS SCRAP CONSTRUCTION STRATEGY AND LOOK FOR ARCHITECT

The Tigers have dropped a "design-build" strategy for
the construction of their new ballpark by "abandoning" their
plan to have Detroit-based contractor Walbridge Aldinger
"manage the entire process," according to David Barkholz in
CRAIN's DETROIT BUSINESS. The team dropped Walbridge
Aldinger after "failing to reach final contract terms with
the company and its partners." Instead, the Tigers will
follow a plan similar to that of the Lions, in which they
will "select their architect and get the design in shape"
before bidding the construction work to contractors. The
Tigers recently hired Chicago-based Int'l Facilities Group
as a stadium project consultant reporting directly to Owner
Mike Ilitch. IFG is partly owned by Michael Reinsdorf, son
of Bulls and White Sox Owner Jerry Reinsdorf (CRAIN'S
     DETROIT BUSINESS, 6/2 issue).
