ANOTHER FOOTBALL TEAM MAKES PLAY FOR FUTBOL MOMS

"Making a play for the votes of San Francisco's Latinos
and thousands of parents whose children play soccer, the
49ers said yesterday that their proposed stadium would be
home to soccer matches on all levels, from kids to pros,"
according to Edward Epstein of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Latinos
make up around 17% of the city's registered voters and
stadium supporters "believe those voters could be vital in
an election where turnout is not expected to exceed" 30%.
S.F. voters go to the polls on June 3 to vote on the stadium
bond measure. 49ers President Carmen Policy: "Propositions
D and F are about football and also about futbol." Policy
"wouldn't discuss any attempt to lure" an MLS team, but "it
has been an open secret for months that" the city would
"like to lure the San Jose Clash" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/29).
The stadium's economic impact on the area is examined on the
front page of today's CHRONICLE (S.F. CHRONICLE, 5/29).
