OVERALL VIEWERSHIP OF BROADCAST TV DOWN, NOT JUST SPORTS

          Broadcast TV viewership "continued to slide in the
     season that ended last night," with 1.7 million fewer homes
     watching ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox than last season "and more
     homes tuning into cable," according to Kyle Pope of the WALL
     STREET JOURNAL.  Prime-time viewing of those networks,
     according to preliminary ratings from Nielsen Media
     Research, declined to a "record low" of 62.1% of all U.S.
     households, down from 65.2% last year.  Prime-time cable
     viewership rose to 32.4% of U.S. households, up from 29.5%
     last year, with an overall increase by 1.69 million homes
     (Kyle Pope, WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/22).
