BOIES SAYS DEFENDANTS SLOWLY BEING SERVED IN LAWSUIT

David Boies, who is representing Yankees Owner George
Steinbrenner in his suit with adidas against MLB, said that
defendants were being served in the antitrust lawsuit,
according to a report in the L.A. TIMES. Boies: "It's a lot
of parties, but the process shouldn't take too long" (L.A.
TIMES, 5/22). Boies, who departed the firm of Cravath,
Swaine & Moore to go on his own, is profiled by Paul Barrett
in the WALL STREET JOURNAL under the header, "Some At
Cravath Don't Lament Boies Departure." Barrett writes that
the Yankees case "reminded some Cravath partners,
particularly corporate deal makers, of Boies cases they
didn't much respect" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 5/22).
NOTES: USA TODAY's Hal Bodley writes that talks
continue that "would permit" MLB Player Relations Committee
Chair Randy Levine to become NYC Deputy Mayor and serve as
an MLB consultant. Levine would be involved in the re-
election campaign of NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani (USA TODAY,
     5/22)....ESPN's Peter Gammons: "Realignment Committee
Chairman John Harrington says that when the owners meet next
month he doesn't expect any radical realignment for next
season, only one or two teams switching leagues. However,
in time, Harrington hopes there will be geographical
realignment with an unbalanced schedule to encourage inter-
     divisional rivalries" ("SportsCenter," 5/21)
