NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Nets F JAYSON WILLIAMS writes "The Basketball Diary"
     for the current issue of GQ.  The diary details Williams'
     '96-97 season with the Nets.  WILLIAMS, on MICHAEL JORDAN:
     "When the cameras are on, Michael's smiling because he knows
     he's gonna make another $60 million in endorsements.  But if
     he's got a problem with you, he'll catch you after the game,
     and he'll put you right on your ass" (GQ, 6/97 issue).
     ...TIGER WOODS and FUZZY ZOELLER met for a "brief but
     cordial" conversation over lunch Tuesday at the Colonial
     Country Club in Ft. Worth, TX, to discuss Zoeller's racially
     insensitive comments following The Masters.  Woods: "We had
     a nice talk. ... Over time, I think we'll see it was an
     incident which I think was good for golf" (DALLAS MORNING
     NEWS, 5/21)....ABC's BARBARA WALTERS, on WOODS, who will be
     a part of her "Six to Watch" special tonight at 10:00pm ET:
     "I think that he is the kind of man who is a role model and
     wants to be a role model ... he realizes what his influence
     can be" ("Late Show," CBS, 5/20)....The 2nd annual Women in
     Sports Business Symposium will take place May 29 at the
     Univ. of Oregon.  Panelists include track and field athlete
     MARY SLANEY, KELLY KRAUSKOPF of the WNBA, TERI WAGNER of ABC
     Sports and SANDI BITTLER of Nike Women's Sports Marketing.
     DONNA LOPIANO, Exec Dir of the Women's Sports Foundation,
     will moderate the panel discussion (Univ. of Oregon).
