TWINS WILL LOOK AT OTHER OPTIONS AFTER FAILED BALLPARK BILL

After the MN Legislature failed to authorize a ballpark
financing bill before adjourning Monday, the Twins said
Tuesday that they will ask MLB "to allow team owner Carl
Pohlad to explore his 'options beyond a local solution,'"
according to Weiner & Millea of the Minneapolis STAR
TRIBUNE. Twins President Jerry Bell said that if MLB
accepts the team's request, "We would begin that process
immediately." Weiner & Millea report that son Jim Pohlad
met with Acting Commissioner Bud Selig yesterday in
Milwaukee "in a step that pushed the team's stance from
veiled threat to direct action." Selig: "They haven't asked
permission to begin exploring options, and I'm not going to
engage in any what-ifs. It is incumbent on the whole
community in Minnesota to find a solution to this problem."
MN Gov. Arne Carlson said Tuesday that the ballpark issue
will not be included in a special Legislative session this
     summer (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 5/21).
