NAMES IN THE NEWS

          The Boston Globe's BOB RYAN has been named as the print
     recipient of the Basketball Hall of Fame's Curt Gowdy award
     (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/15)....Bucs Owner MALCOLM GLAZER made a bid
     Wednesday to buy the remaining 60% of IL-based Envirodyne
     Industries Inc. that he does not already own (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
     5/15)....ABL Glory G SAUDIA ROUNDTREE and REEBOK announced
     the Saudia Roundtree Scholarship Fund.  Roundtree will
     donate two $5,000 scholarships to graduating minority girls
     from her Anderson, SC, high school (Advantage Int'l)....The
     recently established GARY PAYTON Foundation will support two
     WA organizations this year: Big Brothers of King County, WA,
     and Zion Preparation Academy (Gary Payton Foundation).
     ...PETE SAMPRAS is profiled by Frank DeFord in NEWSWEEK
     under the header "Sampras's Feat of Clay."  DeFord, on
     Sampras' desire to win the French Open: "His quest for
     Paris, which begins in two weeks, is so historically
     substantial that Nike -- that official certifier of
     significant things athletic -- has already made a commercial
     hyping the challenge" (NEWSWEEK, 5/19 issue).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown.
