JOHN KENT COOKE REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO BUY REDSKINS

In his first interview since the death of his father,
John Kent Cooke yesterday said he would like to buy the
Redskins from the foundation that controls his late father's
estate and will pass the team on to his sons one day,
according to Richard Justice of the WASHINGTON POST. The
late Jack Kent Cooke "already may have transferred a portion
of team ownership" to his son, but John Cooke declined to
say whether that was the case. After the death of his
father, "lawyers and others speculated" that John "might not
have the financial resources to buy the team." But John was
"emphatic" that he would be the team's owner. Cooke: "I
intend to control the team" (WASHINGTON POST, 5/15).
