FOX SPORTS WEST 2 REACHES DEAL WITH THREE CABLE CARRIERS

Fox Sports West 2 (FSW2) has made a "major
breakthrough" with Southern CA cable operators, announcing
yesterday the completion of deals with TCI Cablevision,
Charter Communications and Jones Intercable, according to
Larry Stewart of the L.A. TIMES. The companies represent
more than 650,000 cable households, bringing the number of
FSW2 subscribers to 1.1 million compared to 4.7 million for
Fox Sports West. A Fox Sports West source said that other
deals "are expected" to be announced next week that will
push the subscriber base to more than 2 million. TCI will
begin carrying FSW2 on or before July 1. Charter began
carrying the network yesterday and Jones Intercable is
currently carrying FSW2 (L.A. TIMES, 5/14). The HOLLYWOOD
REPORTER's Scott Hettrick writes that FSW2, "struggling to
get distribution," lowered its per-subscriber pricing from
$.75 to $.60 in some cases and "has extended its offer for
free carriage for a full year" (HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 5/14).
