WI SENATE BILL ON MILLER PARK CALLS FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

The WI Senate voted 23-10 yesterday for a "compromise
bill" that would require the stadium board to disclose its
financial transactions to the Legislature and public every
three months and prevent the board from using the "moral
obligation of the state" to back any further borrowing,
according to Richard Jones of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL
SENTINEL. The bill also directs the board to meet one year
after Miller Park opens in 2000 and set a target date for
ultimately lifting the sales tax imposed in five counties to
help pay for the project. The bill now goes to the WI
     Assembly (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/14).
