MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          Modell's Sporting Goods confirmed that it plans to open
     its first Modell's Team Store at the MCI Center in D.C. this
     fall.  It will sell licensed apparel for the Bullets and
     Capitals and select visiting teams (N.Y. POST, 4/29)....New
     York City "is on the verge" of a deal with IMG to attract
     corporate sponsors.  A Nike spokesperson said the sports
     company would "certainly have to look at specifics before
     coming to a conclusion.  But if there were a significant
     sports element to the sponsorship or if it included building
     sports opportunities for kids, we'd take a look at it" (N.Y.
     POST, 4/30)....PepsiCo Inc.'s net income rose 8.4% in the
     first quarter, "offering the first glimmer of a recovery
     after a bruising 1996" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 4/30).
