MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

The NHL on Fox is presenting "The MasterCard Million
Dollar Stanley Cup Shot," where a contest winner will have
the opportunity to shoot a puck at a target for $1M during
Fox's telecast of Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals. One
TV viewer will also have the chance to win $1M if the
contestant hits the target (Fox Sports)....USA TODAY's
Dottie Enrico writes that "despite their tongue-in-cheek
humor," Gillette's ads for its Right Guard brand, which star
Scottie Pippen and Charles Barkley and use the theme
"Anything Else Would Be Uncivilized," were "not very
popular" with consumers quizzed by USA TODAY's Ad Track.
Only 11% of those who had seen the ads three or more times
"said they liked them a lot" (USA TODAY, 4/28)....In N.Y.,
Phil Mushnick reported that "advertising sources" say Coors
and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar "were forced" to place ads in
     Friday's N.Y. Post and N.Y. Daily News -- where Abdul-Jabbar
said he doesn't drink alcohol as a matter of personal choice
-- as part of a settlement with the NYC Department of
Consumer Affairs for violation of the NYC Consumer
Protection Law. In January, Abdul-Jabbar said that his
appearances in the Coors ads "did not constitute an
endorsement" because "they didn't require" Abdul-Jabbar to
say he drank beer. Mushnick: "Apparently, the Department of
Consumer Affairs disagreed" (N.Y. POST, 4/27).
