STADIUM NOTES

In Indianapolis, Kathleen Johnston wrote that the
"clock is ticking" for Indy Mayor Stephen Goldsmith's
pursuit of $175M to build a new arena for the Pacers.
Goldsmith has said he needs to decide by May 15 how to pay
for the arena so construction can begin on June 1 (IND.
STAR-NEWS, 4/25)....In Miami, Peter Whoriskey examined the
use of public funds for sports facilities under the header
"Public Funding: Sports Vs. Arts." Judy Drucker, President
of the Concert Association of FL, on more public money going
to arenas than performing arts centers: "This country is
liable to go down the drain intellectually" (MIAMI HERALD,
4/28)....In Tampa, Joe Henderson, on the Bucs' stadium
situation: "Nearly nine months after voters were supposed to
decide whether to build or send the Bucs on a one-way fly
pattern to another city, the fracture wrought by this issue
has not healed" (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 4/26)....MD Gov. Parris
Glendening has asked the Orioles and MD Stadium Authority to
"work better together" on their parking dispute at Camden
Yards (Baltimore SUN, 4/26)....Pre-election reports filed in
Columbus say "backers of the sales tax to pay for an arena
