NEW POLL IN DALLAS SHOWS SUPPORT FOR TEAMS AND NEW ARENA

Three-fourths of Dallas residents say "it is important"
to keep the Mavs and Stars in Dallas, but half would "rather
renovate Reunion Arena than build a new facility," according
to Todd Gillman of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. The newspaper
surveyed 609 adult Dallas residents during a two-week period
ending on April 22, with +/- 4.1% margin of error. The poll
showed that 58% of residents said "if a new arena is built,
the city should share the costs with the teams," although
"most residents oppose higher sales or property taxes to
finance the project, as well as property tax breaks for the
owners." Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk: "I'm encouraged by the fact
that at least the poll didn't come out strongly the other
     way" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4/27).
