The Astros have made a "subtle" change to their road
uniforms by making their gold open-star logo on the front of
their jersey larger and the Astros script smaller. Astros
VP/Marketing Pam Gardner: "The star is the strength of our
logo. It was a subtle change, but we like it" (HOUSTON
CHRONICLE, 4/18)....In Dallas, Kevin Blackistone writes on
Mavericks Owner Ross Perot, Jr., noting he "has turned the
Mavericks into a model of fair hiring in sports outside the
locker room," citing the hiring of Terdema Ussery, an
African-American, as President & CEO. Blackistone writes
that Perot "deserves what he has not sought: Applause"
(DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 4.18)....Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston
responded to a TORONTO SUN story yesterday in which he
"inferred that" three members of the Toronto media were
"biased against him and his accomplishments because he was
black." Gaston: "If someone was unjustly offended, I
apologize. If he wasn't, then I don't apologize." Gaston
told a Sun reporter earlier this week "There's a couple who
continue to take shots at me for no reason at all ... I just
wonder if they would take the same shot at me if I was
white" (Mike Rutsey, TORONTO SUN, 4/18).
