49ERS OWNER HITS CAMPAIGN TRAIL FOR NEW STADIUM-MALL COMPLEX

49ers Owner Edward DeBartolo, "who has been all but
invisible" during the team's campaign for a new stadium
complex, "debuted as a political barnstormer" Friday,
according to Epstein & Yoachum of the S.F. CHRONICLE.
DeBartolo, after "wooing" voters in the city's North Beach
neighborhood: "We've offered something so fair, something
that absolutely works, that it would be folly to say we
would ever try a referendum again. ... I've heard people say
that Ed DeBartolo is going through the motions in this
campaign, that he wants to move the team. That is
balderdash, to use a printable word" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/12).
ON A MISSION: Opponents of the $525M stadium-mall
complex are "kick-starting" their campaign by opening a
headquarters in one of the city's most densely "owner-
occupied" neighborhoods and "vowing to turn out the vote"
     among the city's homeowners (S.F. EXAMINER, 4/12).
