DEBARTOLO ENTERTAINMENT FOCUSING ON LEGALIZED GAMBLING

          49ers Owner EDDIE DEBARTOLO JR.'s business ventures are
     examined by Matier & Ross of the S.F. CHRONICLE.  Last
     month, DeBartolo Entertainment, and the Hollywood Casino
     Corp., owners of the Sands Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City,
     won a license for a $194M riverboat gambling and
     entertainment complex near Shreveport, LA.  Other DeBartolo
     Entertainment plans on the "drawing board" include: A $300M
     gambling resort in Henderson, NV; a Niagara Falls, NY,
     hotel, entertainment center and casino; a hotel in downtown
     New Orleans across the street from Harrah's Casino; and a
     cardroom in Palm Springs, "where DeBartolo is teamed up with
     Hollywood Park."  49ers President Carmen Policy says that
     DeBartolo's interest "is not in gambling, per se.  Any
     entity in which he is involved ... is as a passive investor,
     and/or as the developer of the retail aspect of the
     operation" (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/11).
