Red Sox CEO John Harrington, on the possibility of the
Red Sox switching leagues: "I totally have an open mind
about it" (HARTFORD COURANT, 3/26). In Boston, the GLOBE's
Gordon Edes, noting that Harrington said he "wouldn't rule
out" changing leagues: "But it is perhaps the only position
a committee chairman can take when he knows that clubs have
veto power over any move, and any plan his committee comes
up with won't fly unless he can persuade enough owners to go
along" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/26)....In DC, under the header, "The
Price Of NBA Money," Thomas Boswell writes on Georgetown's
Victor Page, who became the latest underclassman to declare
himself eligible for the NBA draft: "Collectively, what is
happening to all the [Allen] Iversons and Pages is an
absolutely rotten development. It has got no upside
whatsoever. The college game is hurt. The pro game is
hurt. And every hoops dropout loses out on education or
social skills or emotional maturity or all three. Despite
this high, sad cost, no new NBA jobs are created. No value
is added anywhere" (WASHINGTON POST, 3/26).
