Dodgers President Peter O'Malley said he has not
received any offers for the team, but he "still expects to
sell it within three months," according to Bob Nightengale
of the L.A. TIMES. O'Malley: "We have not had any offers.
We have not solicited any offers. We have not put any price
on the property. We've had informal talks with a number of
people, and we're still on the same timetable. ... We're
about where we thought we'd be." O'Malley, on suggestions
that he could retain controlling interest in the Dodgers
while selling part of it: "I'd like to stay on, but I don't
know what will be in my future. I'd like to be back here
(in Dodgertown), and I think there's a good chance I will
be, but I don't know." He added he is "still interested" in
purchasing an NFL expansion team and constructing a new
stadium, "but only if the group of city officials backing
the Coliseum is eventually turned down" (L.A. TIMES, 3/26).
MLB TIX NEWS: The MLB Rangers have sold 17,000 season-
tickets, a record for The Ballpark in Arlington. Although
the season opener with the Brewers has not sold out, it is
within 3,800 tickets of doing so and "could become the
biggest crowd in The Ballpark's history, eclipsing the mark
of 46,521 set last May" (Evan Grant, DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
3/26)....In Chicago, "only about" 30,000 tickets have been
sold for the White Sox home opener, leaving more than 10,000
unsold. White Sox Senior VP Rob Gallas: "We're kind of
puzzled. ... Could it be that people think we're sold out?"
(Phil Rosenthal, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/26).
