MARINERS BALLPARK SCHEDULE MAY BE DELAYED BY COURT RULING

The Mariners and the Public Facilities District (PFD)
said the scheduled spring '99 opening for a new ballpark for
the Mariners "has been jeopardized" by a state Supreme Court
decision, according to David Schaefer in the SEATTLE TIMES.
The WA Supreme Court Thursday turned down a King County
request for "expedited handling" of a case the county wants
to "resolve" so it can sell construction bonds for the $414M
project. Citizens for More Important Things has submitted
73,000 signatures on an initiative that would require a
public vote to sell bonds for any project costing more than
$50M. King County had sought an "expedited review of the
decision" by the state Supreme Court "in order to solidify"
the ruling, but the Court turned down the fast-track proposal
     on Thursday (SEATTLE TIMES, 3/15).
