DID NIKE TRY FOR NEW PLATOON WITH OLIVER STONE IN ADS?

"If everything had gone right" for Nike and its
creative reps this weekend, Michael Jordan and Oliver Stone
"would have been co-stars" of a new TV spot, according to
Jim O'Donnell in the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. Sources tell
O'Donnell that plans "initially called" for the new Nike ad
to begin airing in early spring, during the NBA playoffs.
But "scheduling conflicts" involving Stone and Jordan
"forced cancellation -- for now -- of the shoot." The ad
was to be directed by Joe Pytka, who also directed "Space
Jam" and three other Jordan/Nike spots. One "extremely
well-placed West Coast operative" told O'Donnell that Stone
"agreed to the concept and the basic script. ... whether the
spot will ever get done, with the schedules that the two of
them have, remains to be seen" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 2/28).
