The Bucs say "they've lost nearly $94 million since
Malcolm Glazer took over ownership of the team in mid-1995,"
and yesterday a judge told them "to prove it," according to
Joe Henderson of the TAMPA TRIBUNE. In a hearing as part of
former Tampa Mayor Bill Poe's legal challenge to
construction of a new football stadium, Hillsborough Circuit
Court Judge Sam Pendino said "the team had to produce more
details about" its losses. Bucs attorneys submitted
detailed records on Tuesday to Poe's lawyer, Chris Bentley,
from '92-94, when Hugh Culverhouse was owner, "but offered
one-page summaries for the years since Glazer bought the
team." These summaries show "other expenses" of $49.1M in
'96, and $77.5M in the last six months of '95, which
represent interest paid on Bucs' debt, amortization of
intangible assets, and depreciation on team assets -- "some
of which do not represent cash expenses." The June 30-
December 31, 1995, records showed the Bucs took in $60.7M.
Without the "other expenses" of $77.5M, the Bucs showed
costs for players, coaches and operations of $43.7M. The
'96 record showed income of $69.3M, costs of $53.4M and
"other expenses" totalling $49.1M (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 2/26).
