Broward Circuit Judge Leroy Moe ruled that Wayne
Huizenga "must pay higher wages to workers at the Broward
arena construction site." The ruling "was a victory for
construction unions and puts pressure on Huizenga's Arena
Development Co. to bring the project in on time and under
budget." Arena Development President Alex Muxo said labor
costs "could be as much" as $5-7.5M higher if the company is
forced to pay the higher wage. Judge Leroy Moe left it up
to the county and Arena Development to decide whether to
give "retroactive raises" (Ft. Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL,
2/22)....Madison Square Garden is eyeing a possible takeover
of Radio City Music Hall. The N.Y. DAILY NEWS is reporting
that MSG is "considering" bidding for the theater (N.Y.
DAILY NEWS, 2/24)....The Oakland Coliseum Authority has told
the Oakland Football Marketing Association not to "fool
around" with any "creative ticket-sales game plans and stick
to the original idea. You must buy a PSL to get a ticket to
a Raiders game." The announcement also means it is "not
likely seat licenses will ever be made permanent." But the
city will prorate PSLs purchased this year to nine-year
terms instead of the original ten-year plan. The discount
for fans could "cost the city and county money in the long
run." The PSL plan is about 9,000 sales from breaking even
(OAKLAND TRIBUNE, 2/21).
