NAMES IN THE NEWS

          The Vikings' ROBERT SMITH will be the first guest star
     on the Sci-Fi Channel original series, "Mystery Science
     Theater 3000."  Smith will do a cameo spot in a "Planet of
     the Apes" skit that runs during breaks between the feature
     film "The Mole People" (USA Networks)....REGGIE WHITE's
     Urban Hope program, which counsels low-income residents on
     how to manage money, start businesses and buy homes, will be
     launched in Green Bay and could be expanded to Milwaukee. 
     WI Gov. TOMMY THOMPSON, along with White and his wife, Sara,
     said an experimental program like one in White's hometown of
     Knoxville, TN, could start by the end of the year (MILWAUKEE
     JOURNAL SENTINEL, 2/11)....OKSANA BAIUL was a guest on NBC's 
     "Today" discussing her book, "Oksana: My Own Story."  NBC's
     KATIE COURIC asked Baiul if her recent driving under the
     influence charge was a isolated event or if she had a
     drinking problem.  Baiul: "I think it is isolated ... I
     don't have a drinking problem."  Baiul, on handling success: 
     "I know a lot of friends whose around me and they were
     saying I've done the wrong thing in my life and I'm
     apologizing for that stuff.  I'm sorry.  I've done a mistake
     and I'm going to try to do as [much] as I can, you know,
     just to fix it" ("Today," NBC, 2/12).

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown. SBJ’s Tom Friend also joins the show to share his insights into NBA viewership trends.
