HINDERY REPLACE MALONE AS TCI PRESIDENT

TCI named LEO HINDERY JR. President to replace JOHN
MALONE, who remains Chair & CEO, according to Geraldine
Fabrikant of the N.Y. TIMES. Previously, Hindery was
Managing General Partner of Intermedia Partners, a San
Francisco-based cable operator. The move on Friday was seen
by analysts "as part of an effort to bolster the shares of
the nation's largest cable company, which like those of
other cable concerns have lagged badly in the bull market."
Fabrikant notes analysts were "encouraged" by the
appointment of Hindery, "who is considered a strong and
effective manager" (N.Y. TIMES, 2/8). TCI's stock price at
mid-day Friday was $14, up $.25 (CABLE WORLD, 2/10 issue).
