WARRIORS, CITY OF OAKLAND, LOOK TO DEAL WITH PSL PLAN

Despite an announcement not to make fans buy PSLs for
next season, the Warriors remain bound by contract to sell
seating rights at the new Oakland Arena, according to Renee
Koury in the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. After announcing last
year it would "dump" PSLs, and instead give Oakland and
Alameda County the $25M that the public agencies planned to
earn from PSL sales, the team has yet to reach an agreement
to change a contract with the city and county requiring
sales of seating rights in the rebuilt arena. PSL revenue
was to go public agencies to help pay for the deal to keep
the team in Oakland for at least the next decade. City and
county leaders are "wary" of the team's $25M offer, "saying
it may not be enough to help cover the annual debt payments"
on the $140M deal. While the team had proposed paying the
$25M in staggered payments over five years, team
spokesperson Robin Baggett said they might consider paying
more of the $25M sooner, so the amount of debt would be
reduced faster (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 2/9).
