SACRAMENTO MAYOR OFFERS ARCO HELP IN KINGS DEAL

Sacramento Mayor Joe Serna met with Arco officials
Friday, offering help in talks with the Kings over
promotional rights at Arco Arena, as well as mending fences
over a "joke" he made, according to Tony Bizjak in the
SACRAMENTO BEE. Just after the City Council approved a $70M
Kings loan last week, Serna announced that it was now up to
Arco and the Kings to resolve their disagreement over naming
rights. He then added "with a grin" that Arco has AM-PM
Mini Markets all over town: "I'm not too sure I like beer
being sold at those AM-PMs." The comment reportedly added
to the feeling among Arco officials that they were being
"unfairly painted as the potential guilty party if the Kings
leave." If no agreement comes within ten days of last
Wednesday's vote, Kings officials have said the team likely
will have to leave town (SACRAMENTO BEE, 2/8).
