The Heat named JAY CROSS President for Business Operations. Cross was President of Basketball Properties Ltd., a Heat affiliate organization responsible for developing a new arena in Miami. Cross will be responsible for all business operations related to the team including sales, administration, PR and broadcasting. The Heat also named ROD MCLEOD to be in charge of marketing and sales, for the short term. He was Exec VP for Royal Caribbean Cruise Ltd., and will be joining Carnival Corp. in July, '97 (Heat). In a "surprise move," the Heat "fired" five employees as part of a reorganization, according to Shipley & Jackson of the MIAMI HERALD. VP/Communications MARK PRAY, VP/Sales and Promotions NEAL BENDESKY, Dir of PR WAYNE WITT, Dir of Broadcasting KERWIN HUDSON and Information Specialist ANDREW FEIRSTIN were all dismissed. Team President PAT RILEY: "I don't think this has anything to do with cost. This has to do with getting better" (MIAMI HERALD, 1/8).
