TEAM MEDIA NOTES: IS PALMER LEAVING THE O'S FOR BIG APPLE?

Jim Palmer has an audition today with N.Y.-based MSG
Network that could result in him leaving the Orioles' TV
broadcasts on HTS, according to Milton Kent of the Baltimore
SUN. Palmer, who has worked the past three seasons as an
HTS analyst: "I'm not even close to making a decision. I've
had a wonderful relationship with HTS and the Orioles. I
value that and I hope it continues." But he said he is
"keeping his 1997 options open." One option is the
possibility of a 50-game package analyzing Yankees games on
MSG (Baltimore SUN, 1/23). However, USA TODAY this morning
notes that Palmer has already left the Orioles and taken the
job with the Yankees (USA TODAY, 1/23). MSG Network
VP/Public Relations & Marketing Barry Watkins, told THE
DAILY this morning that MSG "as a policy does not comment on
any type of announcer speculation" (THE DAILY).
HAWKEYE: The Hawks, along with Atlanta's WB-TV, have
formed the Hawk's TV Network. An eight-game package has
been picked up by seven stations in Georgia, Alabama and
Tennessee markets, adding a potential over-the-air viewing
audience of nearly two million viewers (Hawks).
