BREWERS NEWS & NOTES: AN INTIMATE DATE AT MILLER PARK?

In the latest configuration of the Brewers' Miller
Park, seating capacity for the new retractable-roof, grass-
field stadium set to open for the 2000 season will be
43,005, about 500 higher than discussed, according to
Kenneth Lamke of the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. Some of
the seating now will extend around the foul poles and into
the outfield. There will be no bleachers as such, but about
6,300 seats will be in the outfield on three of the four
levels of the ballpark (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/19).
LAND FIGHT: WI Stadium Board members are putting
"pressure" on the Brewers to end an impasse in negotiations
with CMC Heartland Partners, a private development firm,
over who will develop land near Miller Park. CMC owns the
land east of the ballpark, which the Brewers would like to
use for parking. CMC wants a 10-year moratorium on the
Brewers' ability to build anything at all, besides the
ballpark itself. The Brewers want the city to acquire the
CMC land through "condemnation proceedings" (MILWAUKEE
     JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/20).
