          The '97 NSGA MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE will be held May 18-
     21 in Nashville, TN (NSGA)....WAYNE HUIZENGA'S Republic
     Industries said it has acquired three waste-management
     businesses that should add about $42M annually to the
     company's revenue (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 1/16)....MLPBA Exec
     Dir DONALD FEHR will give the keynote address at the '97
     Fordham Sports Law Symposium in NYC (N.Y. State Bar
     Association)....In Washington, RED AUERBACH, BILL RUSSELL, 
     NBA COMMISSIONER DAVID STERN, and BILLY CUNNINGHAM were
     among those in a round-table discussion at the Smithsonian
     Institute last night discussing the "NBA at 50."  The POST's
     J.A. Adande notes the group kept "a standing room crowd in
     Baird Auditorium in rapt attention throughout."  But
     Aueberach, "much to Stern's chagrin, kept harping on the
     ills of the modern league and its emphasis on money, the
     circus like atmosphere of music blaring during the games and
     even the NBA and Washington Bullets' refusal to ban
     notorious heckler ROBIN FICKER from U.S. Air Arena." 
     Auerbach: "Take away his ticket.  ABE POLLIN condones this
     guy.  I think it's a disgrace" (WASHINGTON POST, 1/16). 


TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft
