USOC SELLS THE IDEA OF EIGHT-YEAR SPONSORSHIP PACKAGES

USOC Deputy Secretary General John Krimsky said that 11
of 12 companies which have heard his presentation favor an
     eight-year Olympic sponsorship package over a four-year
plan, according to Kurt Kragthorpe in the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE.
Krimsky outlined the new marketing plan yesterday at Sport
Summit '97, an annual sports business conference. The
eight-year USOC sponsorships will include the '98 Nagano
Winter Games, the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, and the 2002
Winter Games in Salt Lake City. The "centerpiece" of the
package is the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake, as Krimsky
notes they "promise to set a new benchmark for Winter Games
hospitality." Among the benefits for buyers of the
     estimated $90M top-level sponsorship packages -- a '98
Nagano celebration in Utah that will feature access to Utah
Olympic venues for family and clients, plus big-screen
broadcasts from Japan. They also will have advertising
rights for an annual series of Olympic competitions between
U.S. and foreign teams, scheduled to start "almost
     immediately" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 1/16).
