Beginning in the '97-98 academic year, student-athletes will be able to work for pay while school is in session, according to Ivan Maisel of NEWSDAY. Proposal 62, passed in a 169-150 vote Monday at the NCAA Convention, will allow student-athletes to earn money up to the "cost of attendance," a formula that includes "incidental expenses and money to go home." Also approved: any student-athletes who want to write newspaper columns, appear on TV or act in films will be allowed to do so (NEWSDAY, 1/14).
