SIX U.S. CITIES SET TO BID FOR 2008 GAMES

At least six U.S. cities would like to bid for the 2008
Summer Olympics, according to Mike Spence of the Colorado
Springs GAZETTE TELEGRAPH. Bids are expected from Boston,
Chicago, Cincinnati, Houston, New York and Seattle, all with
"at least" $10M available to pay for the effort. Eleven
international cities are interested in bidding for the 2008
Games. With Salt Lake City hosting the 2002 Winter Games,
the U.S. will have hosted four Olympics in 22 years and
Spence notes that "no other country has been host to so many
Olympics in such a short span." USOC President Bill Hybl:
"I certainly concur with the fact that the chance of a US
city being selected in 2008 would be very difficult and
somewhat remote" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE TELEGRAPH, 1/10).
