A MAJORITY OF BOSTON EXECS STAY ON STADIUM ISSUE SIDELINES

While there is support within the corporate community
for a Boston football stadium, "most executives have chosen
to remain out of what has become a high-profile political
fight over future development in South Boston," according to
Cassidy & Vaillancourt in today's BOSTON GLOBE. BankBoston
CEO Charles Gifford has been involved, "working hard to
sell" Boston Mayor Thomas Menino on a plan by Patriots Owner
Robert Kraft to build a stadium in South Boston. BankBoston
finances all of Kraft's businesses, including the Patriots,
so "there is a great deal at stake for the bank." Cassidy &
Vaillancourt write that "it is no surprise that Gifford has
been rooting for" the stadium plan, but some business
leaders feel the bank has "over-extended itself into the
politics of the stadium issue" (BOSTON GLOBE, 1/10).
GAME MEANS MONEY: The Providence Convention & Visitors
Bureau put the cash value for the AFC Championship game in
Foxboro at about $6M (Jerry Ackerman, BOSTON GLOBE, 1/10).
