STADIUM NOTES

In Oakland, Alameda County supervisors unanimously
approved a proposal to reconfigure the Joint Powers
Authority, which controls the Coliseum and Arena. County
Supervisors Mary King and Gail Steele, along with City
Councilmembers Ignacio de la Fuente and Councilperson-elect
Larry Reid, will make up the staff (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS,
12/18)....The Sacramento City Council and the Sacramento
Board of Supervisors voted unanimously in separate meetings
Tuesday to join the Sacramento Ballpark Authority, which
will study bringing an MLB team to the area (SACRAMENTO BEE,
12/18)....While "cautiously optimistic" about bringing the
Maple Leafs in as partners "sooner, rather than later" on a
new arena, Raptors President Richard Peddie said he is
"itching" to begin construction. Peddie: "I have seat-
license holders, season-ticket holders and box holders who
want to know when they can move in" (TORONTO SUN, 10/19).
...IL Gov. Jim Edgar said Bears Owner Michael McCaskey
seemed "amicable" to the idea of playing in a new domed
stadium following a CHICAGO SUN-TIMES report that aides to
Edgar and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley are negotiating on the
"framework" of a possible deal which includes a compromise
to resolve their dispute over "McDome," a proposed downtown
     domed facility (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 12/19).
