While Patriots Owner Robert Kraft "hasn't ruled out"
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino's proposed stadium site in the
city's South Bay section, it would take "major enticements"
for Kraft to choose the location, according to Vaillancourt
& Cassidy in the BOSTON GLOBE. For the Patriots, "major
enticements" would mean "significant" state and city aid to
make up for the "money and months of effort" Kraft has
"poured" into his proposed 70,000-seat stadium in South
Boston. Vaillancourt & Cassidy also noted sources
indicating Kraft "feels alternately baffled and hurt by teh
way" his South Boston plan has been recieved, and is also
"said to be miffed" that MA Gov. William Weld, who had been
a "booster" of the South Boston site, has become a "shaky
ally" after Weld "expressed no particular preference between
the two locations" (BOSTON GLOBE, 12/19).
TURF DOUGH: The NFL is spending $60,000 to resod the
entire field at Foxboro Stadium for the postseason because
the playing surface was "ruined" by snow and rain during the
Patriots final home game ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 12/18).
