SALT LAKE -- ONLY 1,995 DAYS TO GO

It could cost SLOC $54M in order to get the Utah Winter
Sports Park ready for the 2002 Olympics, according to Mike
Gorrell of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. That number "far exceeds"
the $43M being spent by the state and to be repaid by SLOC
to get the facility near Park City up and running. That
$54M price tag, based on a consultant's study, would make
SLOC officials "recoil in shock if they really thought all
of the bells and whistles would be included. Not all will."
SLOC Senior VP Dave Johnson: "If we did everything we wanted
to, it would cost us $54 million. No one is recommending
that. We've always said we would make sure we have the
revenue before we spend the dollars." The $54M figure comes
from a study done by consulting firm Sear Brown, prepared
for SLOC (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 12/10).
TV REVENUE CLOSE: SLOC is "close to meeting its budget
projection" for revenue from TV-broadcast rights. With the
recent signing of contracts to show the Games in Japan and
Korea, SLOC is now guaranteed $429.6M, just $3M shy of its
goal, with contracts still to be completed for Canada,
China, and South Africa. SLOC will receive $22.2M from a
consortium of Japanese networks which have acquired
broadcast rights through 2008 (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 12/8).
