MLB PROPERTIES READIES JACKIE ROBINSON CELEBRATION

All MLB teams will wear a uniform patch next year
commemorating the 50th anniversary of former Brooklyn Dodger
Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier, according to
BRANDWEEK. The licensing and promo campaign will include
commemorative $1 and $5 pieces coined by the U.S. Mint, a
Wheaties box, and commemorative bats by Nike, who will
possibly use the late Robinson in TV ads and sponsor the
annual dinner for the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
Indianapolis-based Curtis Management represents the Robinson
estate, while MLB Properties offers a cross-license for
Robinson and Brooklyn Dodgers products at a 15% royalty
rate, and 18% for products with the Robinson logo, Dodgers
logo and Baseball Hall of Fame logos. Joint licensees
include Mirage for jerseys, Upper Deck and Topps for cards.
New Era is "near" a headwear deal (BRANDWEEK, 12/9 issue).
