ACOG GOVERNMENT LIAISON HIRED BY SLOC TO FILL SIMILAR ROLE
The Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympics has hired Cynthia Gillespie as SLOC VP/Federal Government Relations. Gillespie will work out of Washington DC, and her "primary role" will be serving as the SLOC's liaison to the Congressional and Executive branches of the federal government. Gillespie was ACOG's Deputy Dir Federal/State Government Relations and later became ACOG's Dir Federal Relations, overseeing an annual budget of more than $1.7M. (SLOC). In Utah, Lisa Riley Roche of the DESERT NEWS notes SLOC organizers originally planned on getting $30M in federal assistance, all for security, but federal money "will almost certainly increase" because of the Centennial Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta. Federal funds are also earmarked for a light- rail system and other transportation projects (DESERT NEWS, 11/3).
