          Dolphins QB DAN MARINO appeared live via satellite from
     the Dolphins training facility last Friday on "Late Show"
     with DAVID LETTERMAN as it broadcast from Miami.  Marino:
     "Dave, in honor of you being in Miami tonight, I am going to
     attempt during the rest of the show to eat 100 stone crabs. 
     Think I can do it?"  Marino had a plate filled with crabs in
     front of him and during final credits, he was shown
     supposedly eating his last crab ("Late Show," CBS, 11/22).
     ....AL Umpire JOHN HIRSCHBECK said he turned down $50,000
     for a motel commercial immediately after the spitting
     incident with ROBERTO ALOMAR (N.Y. TIMES, 11/24)....Raptors'
     MARCUS CAMBY purchased a $438,000 home for his mother and
     two sisters in South Windsor, CT (HARTFORD COURANT,
     11/23).....TED TURNER has amassed nearly 1.3 million acres
     of ranch land, and is now looking to purchase land in
     Argentina.  Turner: "In case I don't like being vice
     chairman of Time Warner, I can always come here (N.Y. TIMES,
     11/24)....TOMMY LASORDA is negotiating to open a restaurants
     chain offering Subway and hoagie-type sandwiches in Ramada
     hotels across the U.S. (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 11/25).
