CFL CHAIR SINGS NEW TUNE FOR LEAGUE'S FUTURE

The Toronto Argonaunts won the CFL Grey Cup over the
Edmonton Eskimos before a sold-out 38,595 in Hamilton,
Ontario. Earlier in the week, CFL Chair John Tory expressed
"confidence" that the league's "survival is almost certain,"
according to Marty York of the Toronto GLOBE & MAIL. In
October, Tory had said the league was close to folding, but
is "more optimistic than ever now." Tory predicted a
minimum of eight teams next season, and "hopefully nine."
The GLOBE & MAIL's York notes TSN is "pleased with its
ratings for CFL games" and hopes to broadcast as many as 60
games in '97 (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 11/23). The Grey Cup
was seen on ESPN2 in the U.S. (THE DAILY).
