     CNBC's Greg Miles notes the IOC next month plans to write
new licensing rules in the aftermath of their dissatisfaction
with ACOG's merchandising efforts.  Miles said IOC VP Dick Pound
told CNBC that the rules "will sharply cut licenses, cut overlap
among licensed product lines, and impose strict controls to
ensure both quality of product and consistency of theme"
("Business News," CNBC, 10/21)....Despite the 12-9 vote against
him by the USA Track & Field Exec Committee for a contract
extension, USAT&F Exec Dir Ollan Cassell is confident he will
receive an extension when the full 92-member Board of Directors
votes December 3.  Nike Sports Marketing exec Steve Miller says
he has fielded "a ton-and-a-half" calls about his interest to
succeed Cassell, who's contract, pending the vote, expires in
March '98 (USA TODAY, 10/23)....Sponsors for the '96 World Gold
Gymnastics Tour, featuring Kerri Strug, postponed its Saturday
opening in Hartford, due to scheduling changes and has shifted
the Civic Center event to November 21.  Appearances in Buffalo
and Albany may also be canceled because of combined sales of 330
(HARTFORD COURANT, 10/22). ...The USOC unveiled a $4M, 35,000-
square-foot sports-medicine center at the U.S. Olympic Training
Center.  Two other facilities, an $8M Visitor Center and $11.8M
Athlete Center residence halls are to be completed in December
and January, respectively  (DENVER POST, 10/19).
