The NCAA Special Events Committee has revoked certification for the '96 Haka Bowl since the bowl did not meet its October 15 deadline to provide a required financial guarantee. The bowl was to have matched the third-place teams from the PAC-10 and the WAC in a game in Auckland, New Zealand, December 27 (NCAA). The absence of the Haka Bowl means the PAC-10 is guaranteed just four bowl berths, instead of five (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/17). The Haka Bowl planned to pay each team $1.5M and had a sponsorship agreement with Air New Zealand (USA TODAY, 10/17).
