YOU GOT THE LOOK: FEMALE HOOPS MARKET GROWS WITH NEW LEAGUES

With the debut of two new women's basketball leagues --the
WNBA and the ABL -- and a "number" of grassroots tournaments
around the country, vendors are expanding basketball lines to
include more women's apparel, according to SPORTING GOODS
BUSINESS. Rim Dweller Athletic has launched a "Ball Girl" line
of women's clothing which feature such "motivational tag lines"
as "come to play, not to cheer." Spring introductions include a
line of team uniforms and fitted jerseys, "with potential ABL
player endorsements already in the works." Nike's first women's
basketball line arrives at retail next spring, and it features
authentic shooting shirts, replica jerseys, shorts and practice
uniforms highlighting the UVA, UNC and Penn State women's
programs (SGB, 10/96 issue).
