An TV ad supporting a new waterfront Heat arena is previewed
by Don Finefrock of the MIAMI HERALD. The ad is sponsored by the
Coalition for a Greater Miami, a political committee formed by
the Heat. The team faces a November 5 referendum on the arena
deal, that if approved, would block construction on the
waterfront land. In the ad, Heat President Pat Riley appears on
a basketball court, ball in hand. Riley bounces the ball, and
the scene shifts to the waterfront property where the arena would
be built. Riley voice-over: "If anybody tries to tell you the
waterfront arena is only about basketball, hey, you got to get
the facts. It is all about turning this into a fantastic new
waterfront park for all of us to enjoy. With new shops, new
restaurants and new excitement. Hey, Miami is a world-class
city, so let's go for the best with a world-class waterfront."
The ad closes with an aerial shot of the waterfront with a
watercolor sketch showing the arena proposal. Narrator voice-
over: "For Miami's future. A new waterfront park all our families
can enjoy. Let's build the best for Dade county" (MIAMI HERALD,
10/15).
