ATTENDANCE WATCH: WOES PROFILED IN MIAMI AND CHICAGO

Of South Florida's five main sports draws -- the Marlins,
Heat, Dolphins, Panthers, and Univ. of Miami football -- only the
Dolphins haven't suffered a per-game attendance decline in the
past year, according to Grant Wahl of the MIAMI HERALD. Wahl
takes an in-depth look at South FL's sports fan base under the
header: "S. Florida's Fickle Fans Pledge Few Allegiances" (MIAMI
HERALD, 9/23). In Chicago, Dave Van Dyck looks at the attendance
problems for the White Sox, adding, "Jokes about attendance may
be easy, but they sure are getting old. There is nothing funny
about it, since this year's attendance could negatively affect
next year's team. Just as this year's team could affect next
year's attendance" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 9/24).
