FRANCHISE NOTES

As of late yesterday afternoon, 11,000 tickets remained for
the Bears-Lions game Sunday at the Silverdome (DETROIT NEWS,
9/19)....Bucs Owner Malcolm Glazer will pay to cost to renovate
his private box at Houlihan's Stadium, expanding it to include a
portion of the visiting owner's box and what was formerly the
working press area (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 9/19). ...Noting only 14,930
attended last night's Mets-Expos game at Olympic Stadium with
wild card implications, Jack Todd of the MONTREAL GAZETTE,
writes: "For an underdog baseball team in a wild-card race with
the season winding down to the last dozen games in October,
14,930 is an embarrassment. It's locking yourself out of your
hotel room in the nude at 3am. It's calling your wife by your
girlfriend's name. It's eating too much chili before church"
(MONTREAL GAZETTE, 9/19)....Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner, on
losing a home game by playing a regular doubleheader against the
Orioles today after a rain out on Tuesday night: "We lose a whole
game, second game we lost this year. ... we're probably talking
for one game, somewhere around $600,000" ("SportsCenter," ESPN,
9/18)....Facing a "heavy debt load," the new owners of the MLB
Cardinals, Civic Parking LLC, is asking $32M for two downtown
parking garages they acquired from Anheuser-Busch earlier this
year. Ownership group chair Fred Hanser: "We're not in the
garage business, we're in the baseball business." Hanser added
the garages were acquired only because A-B did not want to split
up its package (ST. LOUIS BUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/16 issue).
