LEAGUE NOTES

MLBPA Associate Gen. Counsel Gene Orza, on the proposed MLB
labor deal: "I'm not happy about the agreement. But it's the one
we agreed to. ... In every agreement, you eventually walk away
upset about something. I'm perfectly willing to walk away from
this one" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/16). ....PGA Tour Commissioner Tim
Finchem, on the next site of the Presidents Cup in '98: "CBS,
which carries the telecast in 1998, would rather we play in
America, but they made it clear they will cooperate with us."
The event drew 25,000 each of the three days (USA TODAY, 9/17).
In Washington, Leonard Shapiro notes the "best guess" is for the
event say in the U.S. for a third competition "to solidify its
status," then be played abroad (WASHINGTON POST, 9/17).
