NFL ON SOUTH BEACH: MIAMI HERALD HAS SUPER BOWL '99 IN FLA

South Florida will be awarded the Super Bowl XXXIII for
January 1999 at an NFL owners meeting in New Orleans, sources
tell Armando Salguero of the MIAMI HERALD. The source, in town
for a tribute to former Dolphins Coach Don Shula, said there is
"little that can stand in the way of the game not being played at
Pro Player Stadium." It would be the eighth Super Bowl in Miami,
tying New Orleans, which has the '97 game. It would also be the
third game for the facility formerly known as Joe Robbie Stadium.
According to Salguero's source, Tampa is expected to host the
2000 game. Atlanta and L.A. were set to bid for the '99 game,
but "had problems." Atlanta had "lost support from the NFL
because it accepted bookings of other conventions immediately
following Super Bowl week" (MIAMI HERALD, 9/13).
